Service? What service? Smile, be patient, have fresh dollars ready, and state your order quickly and don't talk any smack. Then maybe, just maybe you'll get your beer. Or maybe not.
What can you say about Blue Moon? Seattle has been trying to kill this bar for years, and it keeps hanging in there, so you gotta love it.
The patrons are a drunk and mixed bag. It does have a pretty good book selection above most of the booths, so that is plus.
All in all, a kick-ass place.

This place is an iconic Seattle dive. The service is practically non-existent, but the clientele and atmosphere is waaaay eclectic. Our band has played there several times--not because we get paid, but just 'cause of this weird ambience. The place represents a train wreck of all sorts of different types: hippies, academicians, poets, musicians, drunks, street folk...you name it. It is a total dive--a Platonic ideal of a dive. You gotta check it.

Often times, there is fresh, raw sewage draining from the "Bathroom" and into the bar itself- with people tracking it all over the bar, so... I think they do serve beer and snacks in the bathroom! I don't know how you'd rate beer and food served out of a bathroom, though.

To sum it up: The beer is consistantly warm, the beer selection is good, the service IS the clientele- seeming to be looking for some fist to put some face in. My overall rating is that I don't loathe a business establishment in Seattle as much as I do The Blue Moon Tavern, now that I am a boyfriend-in-law of them, choosing instead to wait for My sweetheart, to come home from their clutches on fridays, rather than sit there waiting for her, gritting my damn teeth. If you like flippant psuedo-liberals you might like it. If you don't, it was an educational experience then.

Legendary, but go mainly to say you've been. You have to picture what the place looked like when it was hip 50 years ago or something. Sunday night is Dead Night (or was); Monday's Opera Night. Many of the drunks are certainly quite historic, but if you look like you get paid via salary, you'll stand out and your service will suffer. There's a backgammon board behind the bar that you can probably play. Not too many Seattle bars are this continuously-operating-ly old, and that's the main attraction for those who aren't deadheads, blue collar, or Husky nostalgia seekers.
